Our food bank feeds 70 families! All of the food is donated from PORCH and distributed twice monthly on Fridays.
Kids, join us for summer enrichment camp at the Rogers Road Community Center! This five-week program follows an educational curriculum tied to school standards in math, reading, and writing, as well as including enrichment activities such as gardening, building a solar-powered car with teachers from Durham Technical Community College, learning animal care from animal shelter personnel, and participating in a bike rodeo! Camp lasts for five weeks (June 29–July 31, 2015), and attendance at one of six orientation sessions is required (morning or afternoon on June 24, June 25, or June 26). Students from 1st grade (age 5) to 16 years old are eligible. Total cost is $125 per child; $120 per child if you enroll three or more children. Includes breakfast, lunch, and a snack. Registration is open now.
Our master gardener is preparing the garden to be moved to its new location in front of the old community house at the end of Edgar Street. Join us! We need volunteers with strong backs to help move, dig, and plant the garden. Please wear closed-toe shoes, sun protection, and clothing appropriate for garden work. We are also in the process of raising funds to purchase a greenhouse. All food from the garden will be distributed to the neighborhood.
Halloween Fall Festival 2016
This free event took place at the Community Center during the weekend before or on Halloween. This year it was the Bingo table, Face Painting by Wonder Woman, rap dancing, hot dogs and chips, and the haunted room in the community center with tricky candy bowls that scared the kids. Boo!
